Parish Study

The Dominican tradition sees study as a way to knowledge and insight and thence to holiness.  As a parish we have undertaken communal study of the Sacred Scriptures, Church teaching, and liturgical practice.  This shared work has heightened our awareness and strengthened our community.

Summer Parish Study – Keys to the Kingdom: The Sacrament of Confession and the Eucharistic Revival
Tuesdays, July 11 through August 1, 2023

Rev. Br. Charles Marie Rooney, O.P. will lead the series.

Lenten Parish Study – “Lord, Give Me This Water” What it Means to be a baptized Christian – February 28 to March 28, 2023.
Fr. Frances Belanger will lead the series.

Advent Adoration Series – Preaching on the Mysteries – November 30 through January 18, 2023
During our Wednesday Holy Hour Reflections in the Advent and Christmas seasons, we will have the first installment of reflections on the Sacred Heart of Jesus (2022-2023), Immaculate Heart of Mary (2023-2024), and the Chaste Heart of Joseph (2024-2025) in the various infancy mysteries.
Recordings will be posted weekly if you miss a Wednesday.

Advent Parish Study – A Christmas Litany: The Saints of Advent and Yuletide December 6 to December 20, 2022
Fr. Francis Belanger will discuss how seasonal saints link such themes as apostleship, generosity, and ecumenism to the Birth of the Lord.

Fall Parish Study – The Sermon on the Mount September 27 to October 25, 2022
Fr. Albert Paretsky will provide a close reading of the Sermon on the Mount and show how the spiritual path presented runs throughout the Gospel of Matthew.

Summer Parish Study – The Eucharist: The Source and the Summit July 5 through July 26, 2022
Br. Juan Macias will explore the various dimensions of the reality of the blessed Eucharist and how these dimensions relate to the Church and our life as Christians today.

Parish Study: That Your Joy May be Complete – May 24 through June 14, 2022
Fr. Joseph Hagan offered four lectures on the theme of Christian Joy. Videos of the lectures and handouts are available if you were not able to attend.

Parish Study: Preaching on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit – April 20 through June 1, 2022
Throughout the Easter Season at our Wednesday night Parish Holy Hours, we’ll prepare for the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost with reflections on the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit. 

Parish Study: Imitating Christ – March 8 through April 5, 2022
Join Fr. Peter Martyr Yungwirth as he examines the teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas and Bl. Columba Marmion on how meditating on Christ’s life can lead us to imitate His virtues.

Paul’s Second Letter to the Corinthians – January 18, 25, February 4, 8 and 15, 2022
Join Fr. Albert Paretsky for this 5 week series on Tuesdays in the Parish Hall at St. Vincent Ferrer.

“Come Let Us Adore Him” – December 29, January 5, 12, and 19, 2022
Join us for a four week series of Wednesday Evening reflections on different Biblical figures who came to adore Christ. The preaching will be at 7 pm during the normal parish holy hour at St. Vincent Ferrer.

Advent Study 2021 – December 1, 8, 15, and 22
Join Fr. Peter Martyr for evening retreats to prepare for Christmas. This four week series on Wednesdays in St. Vincent Ferrer will include scriptural preaching on the Incarnation.

Fall Study 2021 – Begins September 28 through November 14
How to Read the Gospel of John. Join Fr. Albert Paretsky in an eight-week study during which he will unpack the important aspects of how to read John’s Gospel.

Summer Study 2021 – July 6, 13, 20, 27
St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians. A four week study of Apostle Paul’s thirteen New Testament letters.
