Mystagogy

Step more deeply into the mysteries of the faith. This ongoing series of adult formation meets on (most) Monday evenings in the Lower Church at St. Vincent’s. Guided by our Parish priests and occasional guest speakers, we open the treasures of Scripture, the wisdom of the saints, the story of the Church, and the beauty of theology. Each season offers new themes, inviting us to grow in knowledge and in love of Christ.

The Church Confronts the Modern World:

Eternal Truths in a Changing World

We will look to the Church’s engagement with modernity—from the storms of the French Revolution to the light of the Second Vatican Council—seeking to see how the Spirit continues to guide Christ’s Bride in every age.

Each year, the Church calls us deeper into the mysteries we profess. Our Parish’s Mystagogy, an unfolding of the faith for adults, returns this year on Monday evenings under the guidance of Fr. Francis Belanger, O.P., Fr. Peter Martyr Yungwirth, O.P., and several distinguished guests. Together, we will walk through the Scriptures, the lives of the saints, the mystery of suffering, and the Church’s witness across the ages.

  • Fall: We will open the pages of the Deuterocanonical Books, the “extra” writings of the Catholic Bible, discovering the wisdom and light they offer to the Church’s life of prayer and teaching. (October 20, 2025 - December 1, 2025)

  • Winter: Our focus turns to American witnesses of holiness from varied backgrounds. Three, with ties to New York City, offer a living portrait of what it means to follow Christ in America.(January 12, 2026 - February 16, 2026)

  • Lent: We will enter the mystery of the Cross. Fr. Peter Martyr, O.P., will lead us through Light in the Darkness: A Theological Study of Suffering, a meditation on how God transfigures pain into grace. (February 23 - March 30, 2026)

  • Easter Season: We will look to the Church’s engagement with modernity—from the storms of the French Revolution to the light of the Second Vatican Council—seeking to see how the Spirit continues to guide Christ’s Bride in every age. (April 13 - May 11)
