March 20 – Solemnity of St. Joseph
Monday, March 20 is the Solemnity of St. Joseph, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Patron of the Universal Church and of the Eastern Province of the Order of Preachers. There will be a Solemn Mass and Procession at 6 PM at St. Vincent Ferrer followed by a light reception in the cloister walk. The Schola Cantorum will sing Mass for Four Voices by Thomas Tallis. (This year, the Solemnity is transferred from the 19th, as that date is a Sunday.)
The Mass will include the traditional blessing St. Joseph’s Day bread. Parishioners are also invited to bring any images, statues, or devotionals of St. Joseph from their homes, and to place them in the St. Joseph Chapel on the north side of the church prior to Mass so that they may be blessed alongside the traditional sweets.
This is the last day of the Lenten Food Drive. There is a custom of offering food for the poor with the blessing of food on St. Joseph’s Day, and so this is a great way to combine these two customs.
The Parish will pray a novena to St. Joseph beginning on March 12.
