August 20 – Midday Retreat with the Mystics: Soren Kierkegaard

On Saturday, August 20, Noon to 3 pm, in St. Catherine of Siena Church, we will continue our Midday Retreat with the Mystics, focusing on the Christian existentialist, Soren Kierkegaard (1813-55).

For those of us with complicated hearts, Kierkegaard leads us to simplicity of heart. For those asleep to what is crucial in life, he awakens us. For those who feel distant from God, he unfolds the immediacy of Jesus Christ as one contemporaneous with us. For those aimlessly immersed in the swamp of distractions, he shows us how to live a meaningful existence by choosing “the One Thing Necessary.”

Fr. Ignatius John Schweitzer, O.P., will give a conference talk on Soren Kierkegaard, followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and guided meditations from his writings. There will also be an opportunity to be anointed with St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Oil.
