October 3 – Rosary Sunday
October 3 is observed as Rosary Sunday. Rose petals will be blessed at the
Vigil Masses on Saturday, October 2 and will be available after all Sunday Masses at the Rosary Altar in both Churches.
Thursday, October 7 is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. There will be a Sung Mass and Procession at 6 pm at St. Vincent Ferrer.
Bring your Rosaries for Rosary Sunday
The Dominicans have a great love for the Rosary. If the connection between its original development and the history of the Dominican Order isn’t enough to manifest this, then the Rosary’s role as a deeply contemplative prayer and the need for contemplation as a preparation for preaching should also reveal this. (There is more on this in this Sunday’s bulletin.)
The custom of Rosary Sunday within the Dominican Order developed from this connection. On the first Sunday of October, Rosary Sunday, the Dominicans celebrate the gift of the Rosary to the Church. With it comes a chance to get blessed rose petals, which are blessed to help the sick and to ward off attacks from the evil one. We will also have a special Dominican blessing of Rosaries at the end of each Mass. So please bring your Rosaries to Mass this weekend too!
Through the intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary, may we be drawn deeper into the mysteries of Christ’s life, imitating what they contain and obtaining what they promise.
