Solemnity of St. Catherine of Siena – April 29

Solemnity of St. Catherine of Siena – April 29

Thursday, April 29 is the Solemnity of St. Catherine of Siena, co-patron of the Parish.  There will be a Solemn Mass at 5:15 pm at St. Catherine of Siena for which the Schola Cantorum will sing Philippe de Monte’s Missa Quomodo dilexi; Nicolas Gombert’s Beati omnes á 5; and Jacob Regnart’s Tollite jugum meum.

The Dominican Parish of St. Vincent Ferrer established a mission on 68th Street east of First Avenue in 1895 which was placed under the patronage of St. Catherine of Siena.  The Priory of St. Catherine of Siena was made a formal, independent Dominican house in 1916.  The present church was designed by Wilfrid Anthony, Bertram Goodhue’s assistant on the St. Vincent Ferrer project, and was completed in 1931.
